Saturday Lotto Winner’s Joke Come True

Saturday Lotto Winner’s Joke Come True
Wednesday, May 22, 2019

A woman from Parmelia in Western Australia has revealed that she started telling everyone that she had won the Saturday Lotto in jest, when she heard that there was a local winner. It was only later that she checked her ticket and realised she had been telling the truth all along, setting her and her family up for a bright future.

There were three winners of the latest Saturday Lotto draw, matching the numbers 2, 6, 8, 36, 29 and 45 to share a jackpot worth more than AU$4 million. One of the tickets was sold at the Kwinana Hub Lottery Centre and News, sparking a frenzy of excitement in the local community.

The lucky couple who had bought the all-important entry happily got involved in the enthusiastic chat and even indulged in a little mischief by saying they had won, having not even looked to see the results. When they eventually got around to checking, it still took an intervention from their son to point out they had landed a AU$1.3 million share of the Saturday Lotto prize.

“I heard someone in Kwinana had won, so I went around telling everyone it was me,” said the woman. “Eventually I checked the ticket, however I actually missed the line with the winning numbers. My son was looking over my shoulder and said ‘Mum, look, they are the numbers’. I guess the joke was on me in the end.”

Looking ahead to what they might do with the money, the winners plan to pay off their debts and support their family, while also having a bit of fun. “Perhaps a Harley for every day of the week would be nice,” said the man, who is in his 50s.

Pete Andersson, the owner of Kwinana Hub Lottery Centre and News, revealed that he felt an enormous sense of pride and happiness after selling the winning ticket. He said: “We always want to see our locals have a win, and we’ve been here for 19 years and this is now our 13th Division One prize.”

The other two winning tickets on Saturday were sold in Victoria and South Wales. The Victoria winner has also come forward and, like the woman from Perth, has decided to remain anonymous.

How to Play Australian Lotteries

To play Saturday Lotto, you must select six numbers from 1 to 45. You win the jackpot if you match all six main numbers drawn, while there are five other ways to win prizes. Two supplementary numbers are also randomly selected in each draw, to give you more chances to win and potentially boost your payout.

Superdraws also take place from time to time, bumping up the First Division prize to a guaranteed AU$20 million. In a recent Saturday Lotto Superdraw on 11th May, six players split the jackpot to take home more than AU$3.3 million each.

As well as Saturday Lotto, you can take part in Monday Lotto or Wednesday Lotto in Australia. Set For Life is played every day and offers a top prize of AU$20,000 a month for 20 years, while the biggest jackpots are usually found in Australia Powerball and Oz Lotto. The top prize in Oz Lotto stands at AU$30 million ahead of next Tuesday’s draw.
